In reflection I'm not going to do daily tagging today on my facebook fan page. I feel it is more important that we spend this day in reflection of a day that truly changed our nation and our lives.

10 years ago I was working in an office in Orlando. We had one tv in the office which got terrible reception. As I went out to get my 9 am patient, the office manager told us that a small plane had just crashed into the World Trade Center. I remember thinking (I can't remember if I said it out loud) that the World Trade Center had the worst luck - thinking back the the 1993 bombing. I took my patient back. Before our appointment was through the radio station had switched from it's regular programming to it's all news sister channel. All day we just listened to what was going on. EVERY patient showed for their appointment that day. We also got reports that Disney was evacuating for the day. It wasn't until that evening at home I saw everything with my own eyes. The people jumping from the building, the second plane hitting, the fall of the towers. As I write this, I'm watching the Dateline episode from Friday evening with tears in my eyes. To hear more of the story from 10 years ago truly brings it back as if it happened yesterday.

10 years later my life is completely changed from what it was then. I divorced my first husband and took control of my own happiness. Now I'm married to the love of my life and we have a beautiful 2 year old son.

On this day, let's put aside the daily tagging of our businesses and instead lets "tag" those first responders and military personnel that we are thankful for. I'll tag my husband, Matt. Matt changed his career in the past year and he is an EMT. He works at the local hospital ER. I'll also tag my brother Luke, retired USAF Master Sergeant.

May God bless you all today and may God bless AMERICA!

Super simple brushing for the kiddos...

As a dental hygienist I'm always finding ways to encourage and help people find ways to keep their teeth and gums healthy.  My goal in a dental visit is to make a patient NOT feel like they got "THE LECTURE".  So, following are a few tips for kids or cavity prone adults.

1.  BRUSH EVERY TIME YOU CHANGE YOUR CLOTHES.  Then there's no excuses about forgetting b/c no one's going to school or ball practice in their pj's.

2.  DON'T RINSE OUT AFTER BRUSHING.  This allows the fluoride a chance to "soak in" and do it's job preventing cavities.  If you must rinse then...

3.  USE A FLUORIDE RINSE.  This is especially good if your little one is cavity prone.  If they are, then do this every night before bed.

4.  CHEW GUM.  Yes, you read that right!  Chew gum containing xylitol.  Xylitol is a sugar found in birch and beech trees that plaque can't digest.  This helps reduce the plaque and also fight cavities.  You should find XYLITOL listed among the first 4 ingredients in the gum.  Some brands include:  Ice Cubes, regular style Trident, regular style Orbit, Mentos gum, Altoids cinnamon gum, etc.

Happy Brushing!

Product giveaway!

Good afternoon everyone!  I have been back from vacation for a week now, but what a busy week it has been!  After a pretty full work week of picking and scraping teeth, I drove to an hour to our state-wide dental convention in Orlando for Friday and Saturday.  I learned lots of great new info about nutrition (ok not new, but I needed the kick in the pants) and remineralizing teeth!  I also stocked up on my yearly supply of toothpaste (thanks Crest!), baby toothbrushes for my little man (thanks Oral-B and Colgate), and for my big man (thanks Oral-B)!  Now, I'm using the little bit of Sunday time to rest and rejuvenate.  It's almost nap time for me and the little man!

5K & Chardonnay is hosting a giveaway of one of my custom earflap hats!  I sent her a hat for her sweet little girl and you have just got to see the photos!  There is also an exclusive coupon code on her blog to my shop!  Become one of her followers and get 15% off your order to my etsy shop!  Click on the link below to go to her blog.

Extreme Couponing and more.

Good morning friends!

I was conversing on Facebook last night with a few friends about extreme couponing.  This is a growing trend and some couponers are more considerate that others.  As a dental hygienist I do want to point out that if you cash in a deal on toothpaste, please be aware that the active ingredient (fluoride) in the toothpaste that helps prevent cavities EXPIRES!  I only use 2 to 3 tubes a year which I'm fortunate enough to usually get for free at my yearly convention.  Check other items you get for active ingredient expiration too, such as, deodorant, and of course all over the counter meds like Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, cough medicines, etc.  If you are getting more than you use, please consider donating to a local shelter for the homeless, battered women, etc.

Now that I'm off my soapbox...I'm nursing a sick husband today and watching my son eat blueberries.  We were supposed to go to Animal Kingdom today with my best friend, but it seems she's under the weather too.

Please keep in your prayers my friend D.  (I can't reveal the name due to HIPPA).  She was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and has a lot on her plate.

Well, did any of your friends disappear with the supposed "rapture"?  Nope, me neither.  Remember that the Bible tells us that only God knows when the world will end.  My joke along with this...the guy did "calculations" to prove when the world was ending and his math  was proven by how he calculated things that had already happened.  Well, I joke that maybe he forgot to "carry the 1".

Have a great Sunday!
